What does municipality mean?
A municipality is a local-government area, often organized as a city, town, village, or borough. The name, legal status, and services provided by a municipality vary by country and region, so a mailing-city name is not always the same as the government that serves an address.
How this finder works
The finder matches the selected address or current coordinates to the locality and administrative details returned by the mapping provider. The map and latitude/longitude help you confirm that the result belongs to the location you intended.
Why no municipality may appear
Some addresses are in unincorporated areas or are described by a county, township, borough, or neighborhood instead. A missing municipality can therefore be a legitimate result rather than an error.
Confirm official boundaries
For voting, taxes, permits, zoning, or service eligibility, confirm the result with the relevant local or county office. In the United States, USA.gov's local-government directory provides official contact links by state.
