Understanding your result
What does your elevation mean?
Elevation is the vertical height of the land at a coordinate relative to local mean sea level. It is different from a phone's live altitude, the height of a building floor, or the distance above the ground while flying.
How the result is calculated
The finder sends the selected latitude and longitude to Google's terrain-elevation model. Switching between feet and meters converts the same underlying estimate; it does not request a different measurement.
Why sources can disagree
Elevation models sample terrain at limited resolution, and an address may resolve to a representative point rather than the exact doorway. Nearby slopes, different map datasets, and rounding can therefore produce different answers.
Treat it as an estimate
This result is useful for general geographic context, but it is not survey-grade and should not determine construction, aviation, flood, or emergency-safety decisions. Google documents that its Elevation API returns modeled values relative to local mean sea level.
